Social Media Marketing In 2016 – Some Great Tips and Tricks That You Never Knew About
I wanted to talk to you today about some things that you probably don’t know about social media. I am not trying to sell you anything here. I just created the title like I did because I wanted to get you to click and read the things that I have included here. These things are important to your social media marketing and to your life in general. Social media is an important piece to your marketing puzzle and if you are not on social media, or if you aren’t maintaining an active presence on there, you need to be. This is essential to your business and your success. More and more people are using the internet and you need to be there. People are interacting with brands all the time. Why should you not be a part of their day? People buy stuff from companies that they like and that they are exposed to.
If no one knows who you are, no one will buy from you. You need attention for your business, and social media is a way to get that attention that your business runs on. Your business is ruled by attention. That attention gets people to buy. That attention gets people to know you, and that attention gets people curious. People need to know that you want their business. There is no shortage of people with money. You just need to know how to get it from them. Legally, of course.
Anyways, I wanted to get to my tips for being successful on social media in 2016. Here are my 5 main tips for being successful on social media in 2016:
Attention Is The Goal
When you are posting on social media, you need to focus on the goal: Attention. When beginning to work on social media as a marketing platform, many people ignore the reason that they are using social media for their business, or even marketing in the first place. The reason that you are using social media is to get attention for your business and your brand. That is the main reason that you are on social media. Attention is something that your business needs in order to survive. When you are marketing yourself, you need to focus on getting attention. When you post, you are basically saying this:
“Take time out of your day to look at this thing that I said. It should help you in some way. Look at me. LOOK. AT. ME.”
When you post, although you are providing value, you are looking for attention. Just like when you talk. You want to communicate, however, you also need to get attention. Communication isn’t communication without attention from the other person. If someone isn’t paying attention, you are essentially talking to the wall.
When you were a child, you looked for attention. As people, we are all looking for attention from people. We want recognition, admiration, and a feeling of importance. This desire for attention is natural and should be embraced. you shouldn’t discourage your natural urge to get attention.
Go for it and get attention for your business. That is the hole purpose of using social media: To get attention for your business.
Focus on the goal and go for it.
Be Where The People Are
Another thing that you need to consider is where the people that you are marketing to are. Where are the people? They have the money. The people provide the revenue. Without revenue, you aren’t a business. You are a waste of money and effort without revenue. Your business needs to be where the people are, at least if you are looking for revenue.
Figure out where your target market is and just hammer it. Gain a following and post tons of great content all time. Keep posting content and go for it. If you are aren’t producing and providing value for people, why should the follow you? There is no reason to follow you on any form of social media, or talk to you in person for that matter, if you don’t provide value.
You need to be where the people are on social media in order to have any type of success. You need an audience. Keep going for a certain group that you want to reach. You can’t get attention if you have no one to get it from. Attention is a valuable commodity. Don’t waste the time of people that are giving you their attention for something. In short, be sure that you get where the people are so that you can get their attention.
Post Often and Post Consistent
Something else that you are going to need to learn to do and get in the habit of doing is posting often and consistently. Nothing is of value without the other. Let me explain. Consistency is the regularity of something. You can post consistently once per month. That would technically be consistent because it happens a certain amount all the time. Posting once per month won’t get you the attention that you need for your business, though.
Posting often is another story. You can binge post 10 times in 5 minutes, but that won’t really get you exposure either. People follow to get a constant stream of content. They want you to share stuff with them, and if you only binge post, you won’t really get anywhere.
You need to post both often and consistently to gain any kind of following. If you post enough to provide significant value and if you do it all the time, people will start to follow you because you provide value. They key to all types of marketing and communication is providing value. When you provide value, you have the ability to help people. When you help people, they want to reciprocate and they buy what you have. That is the whole philosophy behind content marketing:
Give and thou shalt receive.
It’s called the law of reciprocation. Look it up. I think that you might like it.
When you post often and consistently, you provide value. Providing value is what social media marketing is all about.
Create What People Want And Provide Value
Now to the section about providing value. I have talked about providing value a lot so far, and it is great. The key to social media marketing is providing value. You can do this by creating the things that people want to see. When you give them what they want to hear (be truthful), you will get a more active and engaging following. When you give them what they like, you can provide more value and get more business.
Remember the law of reciprocation:
Give and thou shalt receive.
If you give them what they want, you can get what you want.
“How do you know what they want?” you may ask. Well, let me tell you.
You can figure out what people like by listening to them. This might sound odd, but it works. When you listen to the engagement that you are getting (likes, shares, clicks, comments, etc.) you can figure out what you following likes. When you have a following, you can listen to what they like a post more of it. If you see that they like posts about outfit’s that you sell, post more about that. If they like articles on choosing colors, post some more on that. Whatever they like, give to them.
This will help you provide value. When you can give people what they want and what they enjoy consuming, you can build a very niche following. When you provide content that the people you want to attract like, you can build a following. People will follow you because you give ten content that they like. be sure that you give your audience/target market the content that they like so that you can maintain and grow your following as well as your revenue.
The last, but not least, thing that you need to do is engage with people. Social media isn’t called “Social” media for nothing. You need to engage people, especially when they engage with you. When people ask questions or respond to something, they expect an answer. If you asked me a question in person an I ignored you, you would get angry with me, wouldn’t you? Well, I would like to tell you that you can avoid having people frustrated with you about this by doing one simple thing: Responding to them. People like it when you show that your brand isn’t another face behind a computer. Be engaging. Talk to people. Remember the law of reciprocation. People will engage your brand if you show them, when people ask you questions, that you care about what they have to say and respond to the things that they ask you or say to you.
In conclusion, I hope that you learned a lot from this article. Be sure to make 2016 your best year ever for your business, your life, and for your social media. Remember to be great and never settle for anything less.
